So, another day has gone. Not that it was terribly eventful or anything. School, mockery of work, free time.
Oh, and let me say a thing or two about the people I work with. I really don't want to, but it's unavoidably come to my attention. In the workplace, deaf people are pushy and rude. Now, let me explain. I work in the Student Work Program at the School for the Deaf and Blind here. No, I don't actually
go to school there. I take part in the cooperative program with the local Technical College. It's great that I can take advantage of it, being hearing impaired and all, but most of the kids here are worse off than I am concerning their disabilities. Maybe part of the problem is that I only have a rudimentary understanding of sign language, but my co-workers frequently treat me like I'm incompitant. I'll take an order from a customer and then my co worker will turn around and reiterate the order to me as if I didn't get it the first time. I've actually been pushed away from preparing food just so they could do it. Today the lady kept telling me to cook things, and then was miffed at me when we had a ton of excess food that nobody wanted. They're always interrupting each other and jockeying for attention. It's...a challenge. Requires patience. To be fair, I know they don't intend to be so rude..It's just a kind of culture clash between deaf and hearing cultures I guess. Also, they're still young (though they're not
kids...think High Schoolers), so they'll probably master etiquette later. Just makes it difficult sometimes.
My job sucks because I only work one or two hours for like, a doller an hour. Some days I can put in more time when I don't have school or homework. Job simply runs too late, and
last time I let a job cut into my schooling I failed my best subject. Never. again.
